The incident occurred Wednesday on U.S. Route 130 in North Brunswick, where federal immigration agents were conducting a targeted enforcement operation. According to ICE, the driver refused to exit the vehicle after officers issued multiple warnings before speeding away.
Authorities said the vehicle ran a red light and collided with a Tesla. The driver of the Tesla was Dr. Penelope Cohen, the wife of East Brunswick Mayor Brad Cohen. She was treated at a hospital for a leg injury, according to local reporting.

What happened during the ICE operation?
According to ICE, agents attempted to remove the driver from the vehicle during the federal operation. The driver allegedly refused to comply before fleeing.
The vehicle then traveled onto U.S. 130 and struck another vehicle after running a traffic signal, according to the account cited by Fox News.
North Brunswick Mayor Francis Womack III emphasized that local police were not involved in the initial federal operation. Local officers became involved after the crash, according to his comments reported by New Jersey media.
