Judd Nelson looked almost unrecognizable during a rare public appearance in West Hollywood, California, this week.
The 66-year-old actor, best known for his role as John Bender in The Breakfast Club, was photographed riding his motorcycle through the Los Angeles-area neighborhood, sporting a dramatically different appearance.
Nelson was seen with long hair and a long beard, a striking departure from the clean-cut look that helped make him one of Hollywood’s most recognizable young stars during the 1980s.
The actor kept his long hair covered at different points with either a gray baseball cap or a black helmet. He completed his casual look with camouflage pants, a red-and-blue flannel shirt, a long black coat and black sunglasses.

Nelson’s latest outing offered fans a rare glimpse of the actor, who has largely maintained a low profile over the years.
The actor was photographed riding a motorcycle featuring yellow rims and matching accents as he traveled through West Hollywood.
His appearance quickly drew attention because of his transformation from the young star audiences remembered from his biggest 1980s movies.
Nelson rose to fame as part of the Brat Pack, the informal nickname given to a group of young actors who frequently appeared in major films during the decade.

Nelson starred alongside Emilio Estevez, Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy and Anthony Michael Hall in John Hughes’ 1985 coming-of-age classic The Breakfast Club.
The movie became a defining film of its era and helped establish Nelson as one of the prominent young actors of the 1980s.
He also appeared in other films associated with the Brat Pack era, including St. Elmo’s Fire, The Outsiders, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink and About Last Night.
The term “Brat Pack” was coined by writer David Blum in a 1985 New York Magazine article following the release of The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo’s Fire. Many of the actors featured in those movies subsequently became associated with the label.
Nelson has pushed back on the Brat Pack label
Despite his connection to the group, Nelson has never embraced the Brat Pack label.
In a 2024 interview with Us Weekly, the actor recalled feeling that the original coverage portrayed his generation of actors as “entitled and irresponsible and unprofessional.”
Nelson also questioned the idea that the actors were a close-knit group away from movie sets.
He later declined to participate in Andrew McCarthy’s 2024 documentary Brats, which explored the Brat Pack era and the actors’ complicated relationship with the famous nickname.
Nelson explained that he did not see a reason to revive something he did not remember as particularly enjoyable.

While Nelson has continued working in Hollywood, he has generally avoided the level of public attention that surrounded him during his rise to fame.
His latest West Hollywood appearance has nevertheless reignited interest in the actor and his transformation over the decades.
