Home renovation star Konya Hendricks Schuh found vintage lingerie hidden inside a wall while tearing apart one of Beloit’s neglected homes, turning an ordinary demolition into a bizarre discovery.
A strange discovery behind the drywall
Schuh and her renovation team were working on one of the neglected properties featured in the second season of “Betting on Beloit” when they came across something nobody expected.
As workers removed drywall from the home, they discovered a piece of vintage women’s lingerie buried inside the wall.
Schuh described the find as one of the strangest discoveries her team has encountered during the renovations.
The hidden item surprised the renovation crew
The discovery was very different from some of the sentimental items the team has uncovered in other properties.
Instead of old photographs or family keepsakes, workers found a small piece of lacy vintage lingerie tucked inside the wall.
For Schuh, the unusual find became one of the memorable moments from the latest season.
Old homes reveal pieces of the past
The lingerie wasn’t the only piece of history found during the renovation projects.
Schuh said her team has also uncovered old newspapers, photographs and boxes filled with family memorabilia inside abandoned or neglected homes.
One attic contained items connected to Beloit Corp., including awards that had apparently belonged to a former resident decades ago.
Renovation becomes a history lesson
Those discoveries have given Schuh and her team a chance to learn more about the people who once lived in the properties.
While the homes may have fallen into disrepair, the belongings left behind can provide clues about their former owners and the history of the surrounding community.
The unexpected discoveries also add another dimension to the renovation work, which goes beyond simply replacing walls, kitchens and flooring.
Taking on Beloit’s worst houses
Schuh’s renovation team focuses on properties that have become some of the most neglected homes in their neighborhoods.
The goal is to transform those houses into attractive, functional properties that can contribute to the surrounding community rather than remain a burden on the neighborhood.
A family effort
Schuh works alongside her husband, Matt, and project manager Pete Woodkey. Other members of her family are also involved in the real estate and renovation operation.
Their work is centered on revitalizing properties in Beloit, Wisconsin, while encouraging families and workers to remain in the community.
Bigger projects bring bigger risks
The second season also features more ambitious renovation projects.
One of Schuh’s largest projects is a Dutch Colonial property that was previously used as college housing. The massive renovation carries a listed price of $975,000, adding considerable financial stakes to the project.
Despite the challenges, Schuh said she was proud of the finished work and the transformation of the property.
From forgotten houses to fresh starts
For Schuh, the unusual lingerie discovery is ultimately just one small part of a much bigger renovation mission.
Each property comes with its own history, problems and surprises. Some discoveries are sentimental, while others are simply bizarre.
But after the demolition is finished, the team’s goal remains the same: turn neglected houses into homes that can once again become an important part of their neighborhoods.
