Brandi Glanville emptied her 401(k) after spending hundreds of thousands on medical bills while seeking answers to years of health problems that dramatically affected her life and finances.
Brandi Glanville reveals financial toll of health battle
The former reality TV star opened up about the financial strain during a recent interview, saying years of medical expenses had consumed much of the money she had saved.
Glanville said she spent “hundreds of thousands of dollars” on medical care and ultimately emptied her 401(k).
She also said the situation has become frightening as she enters her mid-50s without the financial cushion she once had.
Medical expenses continued despite insurance
Glanville said she had health insurance but still faced significant out-of-pocket costs while doctors attempted to determine what was causing her ongoing problems.
She previously said she spent more than $70,000 trying to find answers after developing serious facial symptoms. Earlier this year, she said doctors determined that ruptured breast implants were connected to some of the issues she had experienced.
The prolonged search for answers added another layer of difficulty as she dealt with treatments, medical appointments and additional procedures.
New diagnoses brought more treatment
In September, Glanville revealed several diagnoses, including highly resistant ESBL Klebsiella and Enterobacter with biofilm, coccidioidomycosis, also known as Valley fever, Demodex dermatitis and mononucleosis.
She said she was facing four to six months of daily intravenous treatment, with costs estimated at between $3,300 and $6,000 per month.
Glanville has also said she expects additional procedures as part of her ongoing treatment.
The reality star says she needs to work
The financial pressure has affected the choices Glanville makes about work.
She explained that she previously had the freedom to turn down opportunities but now feels she needs to accept more work because of the mounting medical expenses.
That motivation played a role in her decision to participate in “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test,” where she wanted to challenge herself physically while also getting back to work.
Glanville faces another setback on ‘Special Forces’
Her appearance on the reality competition came with its own physical risks.
During a helicopter challenge, Glanville said she hit the water hard and suffered a perforated eardrum, concussion, bruised sternum and cracked rib.
She was taken to a hospital by boat after doctors advised against flying because of her injuries. Despite the ordeal, Glanville said she was proud that she had pushed herself and completed the challenge.
A difficult road back to normal
Glanville’s health struggles have stretched across several years and have affected both her personal life and ability to work.
She has been candid with followers about the physical and financial consequences, including the difficulty of undergoing lengthy treatments while trying to maintain her career.
Her latest comments highlight a less visible part of a prolonged medical battle: the financial consequences that can continue even when someone has insurance.
Brandi Glanville hopes to rebuild her life
For Glanville, the current focus remains on treatment and getting her health back.
The reality star has said she wants to return to feeling like herself again, while continuing to pursue answers and treatment for the conditions she has described.
After spending much of her savings on medical care, she now faces the added challenge of rebuilding her financial security while continuing her recovery.
