The 50-year-old rapper, whose legal name is William Leonard Roberts II, surrendered to Miami Beach police Thursday morning.
Authorities booked Ross into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at approximately 6:10 a.m. following his surrender.
Rick Ross Faces Two Domestic Violence Charges
Ross faces one felony count involving battery by strangulation and another misdemeanor battery charge.
Court records indicate both charges relate to domestic violence allegations stemming from an incident reported later.
Police say the alleged confrontation occurred August 28 at Ross’s Star Island residence in Miami Beach.
The woman involved reported the incident September 29, providing investigators with photographs documenting injuries she allegedly suffered.
Police Describe Allegations in Arrest Affidavit
According to the arrest affidavit, the woman said Ross became angry about an Instagram photograph.
She alleged that Ross questioned her repeatedly before striking her during the confrontation inside their residence.
The affidavit states she also accused Ross of restricting her breathing by twisting her clothing collar.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage and examined photographs that allegedly documented injuries following the reported confrontation.
Authorities have not established guilt through these allegations, and the case remains pending before the court.
Rick Ross Denies Allegations
Ross has strongly denied the accusations and described them as fabricated allegations after leaving custody Thursday.
His attorneys said Ross believes an ex-girlfriend wrongfully accused him and urged the public against premature conclusions.
Ross entered a not-guilty plea through his attorney during his initial court appearance Thursday.
A judge set his total bond at $5,000 and ordered Ross to avoid contact with the alleged victim.
Court Sets Additional Restrictions
The judge also ordered Ross to stay away from the alleged victim’s home, workplace, and school.
Authorities additionally required Ross to surrender firearms while the domestic violence case continues through court.
His next scheduled court appearance is October 22, according to information released following Thursday’s hearing.
Rick Ross Case Draws Immediate Attention
The arrest comes shortly after public allegations involving an ex-girlfriend attracted widespread attention across social media platforms.
However, authorities have not publicly confirmed whether that woman represents the same person identified in court documents.
Ross remains legally entitled to contest the allegations as the criminal proceedings move forward.
The rapper also indicated plans to continue international performances following his release on bond Thursday.
