Prince Harry faces expert criticism over his children’s British royal identity, with questions emerging about his 2020 royal exit and family ties.
Prince Harry’s efforts to help his children embrace their British heritage have sparked fresh debate over his decision to step away from royal duties, with a royal commentator pointing to what she calls a major contradiction.
The Duke of Sussex reportedly wants Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to understand their British roots, royal family history and connection to the monarchy. However, royal commentator Kinsey Schofield argues that Harry’s desire to preserve those ties presents a complicated question after years of publicly discussing the challenges of royal life.
Speaking to Fox News Digital, Schofield suggested that Harry’s decision to leave royal duties while seeking to maintain his children’s connection to the institution highlights an ongoing tension in his approach to family and royal identity.
Prince Harry’s Royal Exit Under Fresh Scrutiny
Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from their roles as senior working royals in 2020 and subsequently relocated to California.
In interviews and his memoir, Spare, Harry discussed the pressures of royal life and his concerns about the treatment of his family. The couple also raised allegations about palace officials and their experiences within the monarchy.
Now, according to a source cited by People magazine, Harry wants Archie and Lilibet to understand the world he grew up in and where their family comes from.
Schofield described the situation as a contradiction, suggesting that Harry may be recognizing the lasting importance of royal heritage despite his earlier decision to leave official royal duties.
Why Archie and Lilibet’s British Heritage Matters
Harry’s children have a direct connection to the British monarchy through their father and grandfather, King Charles III.
Schofield told Fox News Digital that Britain represents a significant part of the children’s identity, pointing to their royal lineage and extended family connections.
British royal commentator Hilary Fordwich also said it was understandable that Harry would want his children to appreciate their heritage, traditions and relatives.
However, Fordwich questioned whether the family could rebuild its relationships with Harry amid the continuing tensions.
The differing perspectives highlight the challenge of maintaining a connection to royal heritage while living outside the traditional structure of the monarchy.
Family Reconciliation Remains a Key Challenge
Harry has previously expressed a desire to reconcile with his family. However, relations with several senior royals have remained strained following the Sussexes’ departure.
The relationship between Harry and his older brother, Prince William, has also been a subject of continued public attention.
Schofield argued that rebuilding trust between the adults would be important if Archie and Lilibet are to develop meaningful relationships with their royal relatives, including their cousins.
British broadcaster Helena Chard offered a different perspective, suggesting that children could potentially help bridge divisions within the family.
For Harry, the challenge may extend beyond introducing his children to British traditions. Establishing lasting connections with their royal relatives could require progress in the wider family relationships.
As the debate over the Sussexes’ relationship with the monarchy continues, Harry’s reported desire to preserve his children’s British identity has brought renewed attention to the balance between royal heritage, personal independence and family reconciliation.
