Former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon is warning that the rapid development of artificial intelligence could create a threat far more serious than many people realize, saying his biggest concern is the possibility of machines becoming increasingly capable of improving themselves.
Coxon, 27, recently resigned from Anthropic and left the AI industry, giving up equity that was expected to vest just two months later. He said he made the decision because he became deeply concerned about the direction of advanced AI development.

Coxon’s warning centers on what could happen if AI systems develop the ability to substantially improve their own capabilities.
