Georgia Mayor Jayden Williams, 23, has been removed from office just 10 months after making history as the state’s youngest mayor, following a lengthy investigation into allegations involving city spending and his communications with an 18-year-old high school student.
The Stockbridge City Council voted to remove Williams after a nearly 10-hour investigative hearing on Sept. 12. Williams had taken office in January at age 22, becoming the youngest mayor in Stockbridge history and, according to Fox News, the youngest elected mayor in Georgia history.

The council’s decision followed months of controversy surrounding Williams’ conduct in office.
Among the allegations was that Williams improperly used a city purchasing card for personal expenses. Investigators examined more than $4,000 in purchases that reportedly included restaurant meals, clothing, haircuts and a movie. He was also accused of spending approximately $2,600 on gasoline and using a city vehicle for personal purposes.
Williams testified that he did not intend to use public funds for personal expenses and said he repaid the money. He also claimed that the city-issued card looked similar to his personal card, leading to confusion.
Mayor faced allegations involving 18-year-old
The investigation also examined Williams’ communications with an 18-year-old male high school student.
Williams was accused of exchanging sexually suggestive messages and explicit images with the student. A police investigation did not result in criminal charges because the student was legally an adult under Georgia law. However, the matter was referred for administrative review over potential ethical and policy concerns.
Williams has denied wrongdoing and previously said the communications occurred before he became mayor. He also disputed the characterization of the city’s “Mayor for a Day” initiative as a mentorship program and said the student did not participate in it.
Williams had already lost some official privileges
The controversy had already affected Williams’ ability to perform some mayoral duties.
The city stripped him of certain official privileges in July while the investigation continued. He was restricted from using city vehicles and certain city resources as officials examined the allegations.
The allegations remained the subject of an administrative and political dispute rather than a criminal prosecution.
Stockbridge prepares for leadership change
Following Williams’ removal, Mayor Pro Tem Elton Alexander is expected to serve as interim mayor while the city prepares for a special election, according to city officials. The council is also expected to address the election process and whether Williams could seek the position again.
The removal represents a dramatic reversal for Williams, whose election had initially attracted attention because of his age.
He campaigned for mayor while attending Clark Atlanta University, ultimately becoming the youngest mayor in Georgia history.
A rapid rise followed by a dramatic fall
Williams’ political career went from historic achievement to removal in less than a year.
His election at 22 made him a prominent young political figure in Georgia, but the allegations that emerged during his first months in office quickly put his administration under scrutiny.
The Stockbridge City Council’s decision now brings his brief tenure to an end, while the city moves toward a special election and a new chapter in its leadership.
Williams was not criminally charged over the conduct examined in the investigation, but the council determined that the allegations and findings warranted his removal from office.
