A California high school football coach was arrested after students discovered a cellphone recording inside a campus locker room, prompting a police investigation, authorities said.
Jeffrey Pribble, 48, a teacher and varsity football coach at Tracy High School in Tracy, California, was arrested Friday after investigators determined the phone belonged to him, according to the Tracy Police Department.
The discovery was made Thursday when a student and several classmates found the cellphone recording inside the locker room while students were changing.
Students discover cellphone in locker room
According to police, the students stopped the recording, deleted the video and turned the phone over to a teacher.
A concerned parent contacted Tracy police later that evening, leading school resource officers and detectives to begin an investigation.
By the following day, investigators had determined that the cellphone belonged to Pribble, who was subsequently arrested.
Authorities have not publicly detailed the full scope of the allegations or said what was captured on the recording.
Football coach placed on leave
Pribble serves as Tracy High School’s varsity football head coach and works in the school’s physical education program, according to school information.
He has been the football coach for five years and has about 22 years of experience working as an educator in the district, according to information cited by Fox News.
Following his arrest, the Tracy Unified School District placed Pribble on leave while separate criminal and district investigations continue.
School officials said the district was cooperating with police and emphasized its commitment to student safety and privacy.
Police investigate locker room recording
Tracy Police Chief Sekou Millington said protecting students’ safety and privacy remains a priority for the department.
Police also credited the students who reported the cellphone and brought the situation to the attention of adults.
The school district similarly thanked the students, parents, staff and investigators who responded to the discovery.

The arrest does not by itself establish guilt, and the allegations remain under investigation.
Authorities have not released additional details about potential charges or indicated whether other individuals may be involved.
