Jerry Jones delivers a memorable ‘dangerous’ warning after Dallas beats Washington 37-20, as Dak Prescott makes Cowboys history with four touchdown passes.
Jerry Jones Issues ‘Dangerous’ Warning After Cowboys Win
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones delivered a memorable warning after his team defeated the Washington Commanders 37-20 on Sunday, adding a dose of billionaire bravado to a victory that also saw quarterback Dak Prescott make franchise history.
Jones, 83, was in high spirits following the September 20 win at AT&T Stadium, where Prescott threw four touchdown passes and surpassed Tony Romo’s Cowboys record for career passing touchdowns.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Jones offered a one-liner that quickly stood out.
“Nothing more dangerous than an old man with money,” Jones said, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
The remark came after Dallas bounced back from a season-opening loss to the New York Giants, avoiding an 0-2 start and improving its record to 1-1.
Jerry Jones Reflects on Cowboys’ Crucial Win
Jones acknowledged that the Cowboys’ Week 2 matchup carried considerable weight after their disappointing opening performance.
The Dallas owner admitted he had been concerned about the prospect of another loss, particularly against a Washington team coached by Dan Quinn.
“I really was worried about what it was going to be like if we did end up 0-2,” Jones said, according to the team’s official website.
He added that it would have been difficult to face reporters after another defeat.
Jones praised the players and coaching staff, specifically recognizing head coach Brian Schottenheimer and the work that went into the victory.
The win provided Dallas with an important early-season reset while giving Jones reason to celebrate in front of the home crowd.
Dak Prescott Makes Cowboys History
Prescott delivered one of the standout performances of the game, completing 26 of 31 passes for 279 yards and four touchdowns.
His performance pushed his career passing touchdown total with Dallas to 249, moving him past Romo’s previous franchise record of 248.
Prescott’s historic touchdown came on a fourth-quarter connection with CeeDee Lamb, further extending Dallas’ lead over Washington.
Lamb finished with eight receptions for 153 yards and two touchdowns, giving the Cowboys offense a potent combination in the passing game.
The performance marked a significant milestone for Prescott, who has spent 11 seasons with the franchise.
Dallas’ offense also received contributions from tight end Jake Ferguson, who caught two touchdown passes, while kicker Brandon Aubrey connected on field goals of 25, 44 and 60 yards.
Cowboys Bounce Back Against Commanders
The Cowboys entered the game looking to respond after a season-opening loss to the Giants.
Against Washington, Dallas established control early and carried a 17-10 lead into halftime.
The Commanders attempted to remain competitive, but quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a dislocated left elbow on the final play of the first half and did not return.
Backup quarterback Marcus Mariota helped Washington produce points in the second half, but Dallas maintained its advantage and secured the 37-20 victory.
The result moved the Cowboys to 1-1, while Washington fell to 0-2.
Jerry Jones Looks Ahead as Cowboys Prepare for Ravens
Jones’ postgame comments offered a glimpse of the confidence returning to Dallas following its victory over a division rival.
The Cowboys are scheduled to face the Baltimore Ravens in Brazil in Week 3, presenting another early-season test for Prescott and the team.
For Jones, the Washington victory provided both relief and momentum after a difficult opening week.
His “old man with money” quip added a memorable moment to a game already defined by Prescott’s record-setting performance and Dallas’ response to its season-opening defeat.
