Christine Taylor is opening up about an uncomfortable Hollywood demand she faced after landing one of her most recognizable roles: Marcia Brady in “The Brady Bunch Movie.”
The actress recently recalled being asked to lose 10 pounds before filming the 1995 comedy, a request she accepted despite feeling embarrassed by it.
Taylor discussed the experience during an appearance on the “Office Ladies” podcast, reflecting on how differently Hollywood operated in the 1990s. She said such a request would not happen today.

Taylor said the weight-loss request came after she had landed the role of Marcia Brady.
At the time, she said she was not considered overweight, making the demand particularly uncomfortable.
Still, Taylor agreed to comply.
“I’ll lose 10 pounds,” she recalled, explaining that weight-loss demands were viewed as a normal part of the entertainment industry at the time.
Taylor said she felt embarrassed when the request was made but also understood that similar expectations were placed on other actresses during that era.
Taylor was a longtime Brady Bunch fan
Landing the role was especially meaningful for Taylor because she had been a devoted fan of the original television series.
Before being cast in the movie, she had performed as Marcia Brady in “The Real Live Brady Bunch,” a stage production based on the classic sitcom.
Taylor recalled watching the original show repeatedly and becoming deeply familiar with Marcia’s character.
She eventually received a personal call from series creator Sherwood Schwartz, who expressed interest in meeting her. Taylor described the moment as a major Hollywood opportunity and said she felt strongly that she was the right person for the role.

Taylor emphasized that the request reflected the standards of the entertainment industry during the early 1990s.
She said she was not the only actress being asked to change her body for a role and described the practice as something that was simply accepted at the time.
But looking back, Taylor said the demand would be handled very differently today.

Her weight changed during filming

Because of reshoots and the lengthy production process, viewers can reportedly see her weight fluctuate throughout “The Brady Bunch Movie.”
Taylor joked that she gradually regained the 10 pounds she had been asked to lose.
She also recalled treating herself to non-fat frozen yogurt after finishing scenes, joking that the dessert was a popular indulgence at the time.
