NASCAR wives launch explosive claims after violent pit road brawl at Bristol Motor Speedway

BRISTOL, Tenn. — Tempers flared and fists flew on pit road following Saturday night’s intense NASCAR Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway, prompting explosive reactions and harsh accusations from NASCAR wives and family members after a dramatic post-race brawl.

The chaos erupted immediately following the checkered flag when 2023 Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney confronted Spire Motorsports driver Carson Hocevar. Late in the race, contact from Hocevar sent Blaney’s car spinning into the outside wall while battling for second place with just 43 laps remaining—ending a dominant performance where Blaney had led a race-high 202 laps.

When Hocevar climbed out of his car after finishing third, an irate Blaney grabbed him by his firesuit. Hocevar responded by launching two punches—one of which knocked Blaney’s hat clean off his head—before crew members and track security rushed in to separate the drivers.

Water bottle tossed into the scrum

Adding fuel to the chaotic scene, fellow driver Ty Gibbs was captured on camera smiling as the brawl broke out, ultimately tossing a water bottle directly into the middle of the physical scrum as security attempted to restore order.

As footage of the pit road brawl went viral across social media, the wives and partners of several Cup Series drivers did not hold back in their assessment of Hocevar’s driving style and track conduct.

Gianna Tulio, fiancé of Ryan Blaney, joined other prominent NASCAR wives in slamming Hocevar on social media following the incident, accusing the 21-year-old driver of a recurring pattern of reckless driving that endangers other competitors during crucial Playoff races.

“It’s the same story every single week with him,” one driver’s spouse shared online, expressing frustration over Hocevar’s aggressive moves taking contenders out of championship contention. “At some point, driving like that has real consequences.”

‘Getting old’

Addressing reporters after being escorted away from pit road, Blaney expressed deep frustration over the late-race contact that dropped him to 33rd place in the official race results and damaged his position in the Chase standings.

“I haven’t had a problem with him for probably a year and a half, but it’s getting old,” Blaney said regarding Hocevar.

For his part, Hocevar defended his aggressive driving as a hard-fought battle for position at a short track. “We were trying to win the race,” Hocevar remarked after acknowledging the boos and cheers from the Bristol crowd. “That was for second place and he wanted to come fight.”

NASCAR officials are reviewing the post-race footage from pit road to determine whether fines or suspensions will be issued ahead of next week’s Cup Series event.
