A convicted felon with 10 prior convictions was arrested after police searched the Minnesota home he shared with Rep. Ilhan Omar’s son.
MINNEAPOLIS — A Minnesota man with a lengthy criminal record was arrested after police executed a search warrant at the Minneapolis apartment he shared with the son of Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., where firearms and ammunition were reportedly recovered.
The man, identified as 22-year-old Abdulrahman Abdi, was the roommate of Omar’s son, Adnan Hirsi. Hirsi was not arrested or publicly accused of wrongdoing in connection with the investigation. Omar also has not been implicated in the case.
The incident has drawn attention because of the connection to the Democratic congresswoman, who has faced criticism over her positions on gun policy and law enforcement.
Police raid Minneapolis apartment
Minneapolis police reportedly executed a search warrant at the apartment on Tuesday, Aug. 25.
The search followed a traffic stop involving Abdi earlier that day. Officers reportedly cited him for driving-related violations, including a lack of proof of insurance and a valid license.

Omar’s son was not arrested
Despite the police search of the apartment, there is no indication that Hirsi was arrested or charged in connection with the investigation.
Fox News reported that Hirsi has not been implicated in any wrongdoing. The same report noted that Omar herself was not implicated in the incident.
The distinction is significant because the search warrant concerned an apartment shared by the two men, while Abdi was the person taken into custody.
